Kings Of Leon

Last night I went to see the Gods that are Kings Of Leon. Now I wouldn't say we were sad or anything, but we arrived 4 hours before they opened the doors to make sure we were at the front of the line, which we were (yay!) but we had not anticipated the weather being sooo cold, and by the end of the 4 hours, we couldn't feel our toes (boo!)

I think I could safely say it was one of the best gigs I have ever been to, with The Strokes coming in at a close second. When I think back to it, maybe wearing 6 inch heels wasn't the best idea.

Photoshoot

The day of the photo shoot finally came around, and boy was I glad to see it! I had been so excited about taking the photos, I knew exactly what I wanted them to look like, they came out exactly how I had imagined them. Perhaps, looking back at them, I would change some of the poses, make them slightly more unusual and geometric. Overall though I am really pleased with how they look.

The whole experience was new for both me and my model, Emilie. I had never before conducted a photo shoot completely by myself, and Emilie had never been asked to stand on her toes for hours on end.

Full Fashion Portraits - Vogue Italia

Photographer - Mario Sorrenti
Magazine - Vogue Italia February 2008
Models - Irina Kulikova, Lara Stone
This shoot has got to be a favourite of mine, not only because Lara Stone is one of my favourite models, but the photography, make-up and styling are just perfection. There is a definite mix of masculinity and femininity as shown in the photo below.
The black tie and jacket teamed with the huge pink flower brooch and pink skirt gives the photo a quirky edge.
Below, the photo is proof that less is overrated and more is best! So come on girls, you can pile on the make up and wear feathers in your hair!

Reiniger's Prince Achmed 1926

Like most people, I thought the first feature-length animated film was Walt Disney's "Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs", but this isn't true, the first feature-length animated film was actually Lottie Reiniger's "Adventures of Prince Achmed".

It was really odd coming across this on the internet as I remember watching this film as a child. It really is perfect for my project, silhouettes, and they are so delicate and beautiful. The paper cutouts were jointed using wires and delicately arranged on top of a lightbox, where it was photographed frame by frame.

Robert Ryan

Seeing the images from "Adventures of Prince Achmed" heavily reminded me of Robert Ryan's work which is very similar. Ryan's work is also very suitable for my project, looking at silhouettes and cut-outs really help me think about the structure and composition of my photos.

Fierce in Feathers

Carrie Sex & the City carried a feather clutch and looked stunning, as always. Mary-Kate Olsen wore a peacock headband in style, and Rhianna wore a head-piece made of feathers which was rather unusual. Is it me or are feathers plucking up all over the place, it's great for me as my tribe project photo shoot will have feathers incorporated into it somehow, it's fantastic to get some inspiration on how to wear them from the people who would know best.

Dungeness

If any of you have ever been to Dungeness, you will know it's one of the strangest places on Earth, and at the same time, one of my favourite. I took a trip there to get some inspiration and to just re-visit the place. It's so desolate and sparse, and for some reason, although the population is around 100, you never seem to see anyone...ever. Here are some photos I took...

Amazing Grace.../Research on chosen magazine

As my friends and I wouldn't be seeing each other over the Christmas holidays, we did the whole secret santa shabazz, so around the circle we went, tin of roses, a compact, a small clutch from Topshop, and then it was my turn. My present was a bottle of Amazing Grace perfume by Philosophy, oh my god, I thought, but I only got her a bottle of Grey Goose Vodka. She didn't mind though, she didn't mind at all, to be honest, I think she was a bit too happy to receive a bottle of vodka, oh Katie!
The perfume has the most hypnotising smell, a very clean, fresh smell, 10 out of 10 gift!!!

For my Creative Individual piece, I decided to write it for i-D magazine. i-D is a British magazine, revolving mainly around youth culture, fashion, art and music. The target audience for i-D would be roughly 18-24 both girls and boys. I chose this magazine because it is personally a favourite of mine, and I thought it would be easier for me to identify with the audience.

Vogue Patterns

Looking at the Vogue Italia fashion spread shot by Steven Meisel really inspired me in this project, I put different patterns and colours together an photographed them. All the colours, textures and patterns can look very confusing, but it works so well, especially with the Amy Winehouse-esque tattoos.
